English Poem for Kids
This poem is in English and I wrote it for my daughter’s school project. For the last week, my wife and I have been searching a lot on the internet for a suitable poem that my daughter could use–she is the 1st grade and has a poetry recitation competition coming up. So, after tiring from searching, I decided to quickly pen down some lines that my daughter could use.
I fiddled with a couple of titles for the poem but we finally settled on this one:

Why children are awake
Birds are singing;
Bells are ringing.
Flowers are sweet;
In rain and heat.
Stars are shining;
Children are awake,
Because they want to run
To swim in the lake.

My daughter studies in first grade and she often comes home with a request or the ‘homework’, which is actually parents’ work to prepare a short poem so that she could recite it. While it is a wonderful activity for children as they learn to speak new words, get over their stage-fear, and also get to know the language better, it is very difficult to find suitable poems for children of such age to recite.
I have faced this problem many times. My wife keeps prodding me why I don’t write some poems for her because I claim to be a poet. Well, lately, I have given it a thought and have decided that whenever I could, I will write short poems that I could share here on my blogs for parents who are looking for new poems in Hindi for their children.

I have never written poetry specifically for children, but have dabbled a bit in the Hindi language for my daughter who is in 1st grade. She often requires a poem or a story to recite in the school. Her mother prepares her for the recitation but she often approaches me to find out suitable poems or stories or try writing them.
However, lately, I have found writing these small poems in Hindi suitable for kids quite interesting. They are no-brainer and can be written quite easily and quickly.

Whatever the teacher wanted us to do or perform, they would make us prepare on their own. Nursery Rhymes for KG Class
Lately, I have been writing a few poems and short stories for my daughter who is in the 1st grade, which I think can be used by other parents as homework for their children. I am sharing them here on my website whenever I write them.

Indian Nursery Rhymes in Hindi
I was particularly inclined to write this short Hindi nursery rhyme on a cap because my mother just weaved me a nice woolen cap for winters. It fits perfectly and I am looking forward to wearing it.

Nursery Poem on Trees in Hindi
With a mixed feeling of mild surprise and vindication of the appropriate strategy, I have noticed that users have started landing on my website searching for nursery rhymes and short poems in the Hindi language. The first search that I noticed came somewhere from the US, which is no surprise at all as a lot of expats living in the US are looking to teach Hindi to their children.
This, of course, has encouraged me to keep writing more such poems and nursery rhymes. The main motive, as you know by now, is to make such poems, stories, and rhymes available to parents who are looking for new material for homework and other school activities. The old material seems to be overused and sound stale.

Short Hindi Poem Based on Children’s Day
Once again, I wrote this poem for my daughter when my wife came to me saying that she has received a message from her teacher to have her prepare a Children’s Day poem. It was on a very short notice, but because we had the option to get a very short poem, I thought of writing it on my own rather than wasting time on searching online.
It’s is quite easy to remember and even children of nursery and KG classes can use it for their own schools.

Short Hindi Poem on Winter Season for Nursery Class
Winters are here and it is time enjoy some delicious home-grown vegetables including radish, carrots, and cauliflower. Though winters are tough to bear, the time is best to do heavy eating.

I have seen children reciting poems with fervor and passion given that they really understand and enjoy the meaning of the poem. This is where the art of writing poetry for children comes into play because you have to be careful about the context and easiness of the words that you are using in the poem.
I have found this particularly difficult and limiting because I have never written poems for kids in the past–it’s only recently that I started writing these short and small poems geared towards children because my daughter needed them in her school for many activities.

Cleanliness is considered godliness, and without doubt, children should be made aware of keeping themselves and their environment clean right from an early stage. One of the main objectives of making school children recite poetry in various languages including the regional, national as well in English is to make them aware of the social and environmental issues that the society is facing, and how through these poems the children could be made aware so that they could participate in their little but impactful way.
